Lehigh Teams Up with Xavier University of Louisiana to Aid African American Students Aspiring to be Global Leaders

Lehigh College of Business and Xavier University of Louisiana have jointly announced a new 4 + 1 partnership agreement that includes four years of undergraduate studies with Xavier and one year of management training with Lehigh.

Xavier University (XULA) students in Liberal Arts or STEM Field Majors can join Lehigh’s MS in Management (M2) program and earn a Masters degree in 10 months. The combination of the humanities or STEM with a business education enables the XULA graduate to be job-ready to enter a variety of industries ranging from healthcare to consulting to banking to brand marketing and pharmaceuticals, to name a few.

“What an honor for Lehigh to work with a historically black college of Xavier caliber,” said Georgette Chapman Phillips, Kevin L. and Lisa A. Clayton Dean of the Lehigh College of Business. “Our goal is to make sure that all students have what they need to be successful.”

Phillips added, “This partnership with Xavier is part of a concerted effort by our college faculty and senior management to not only attract the best and brightest students, but also to enhance and equitable the importance of a diverse and inclusive learning environment. The combination simply makes for an enriching student experience. “

Reynold Verret, President of Xavier University of Louisiana, said, “Xavier is proud to partner with Lehigh University to provide opportunities that develop the talents of our students as they join the workforce. Lehigh and Xavier’s commitment to developing tomorrow’s leaders is exemplary of the more just and humane society we teach our students to seek. ”

Accepted XULA students are guaranteed a generous scholarship to support their educational endeavors. In addition, each year an aspiring XULA senior who has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills is invited to join Lehigh’s spring and summer international immersion experience as a “global villager” in the Lehigh Iacocca Global Village Immersion program.

The Iacocca Global Village brings together students and leaders from around the world. Global Village consists of activities in both a virtual, intimate global online community in the spring and a summer campus residence on Lehigh’s campus as the villagers immerse themselves in a five-week, intensive, full-time program from late June to late June.

“Partnering with Lehigh University is a win-win,” said Anderson Sunda-Meya, acting dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at Xavier University, Louisiana. “It offers our Xavier students a combination of access to large companies and new business avenues for professional development. Lehigh’s reputation for excellence in experiential learning and his supportive alumni network and job posting benefit our talented students in many ways.

“Now interested Xavier students in the humanities and STEM fields who want to expand their career choices can supplement their undergraduate studies with business training. This means an exceptional placement and thus a better future for our Xavier graduates.”
